Canada has a large community with Dutch roots, and Marktplaats is where the things from home are sold second-hand: Delft blue, old Dutch books and comics, bikes and model trains. Almost every seller is a private person who posts within the Netherlands only and wants to be paid by iDEAL or Tikkie, both tied to a Dutch bank account. With a Dutch address at DZH the seller simply ships to us, or our personal shopper buys and pays on your behalf. We inspect and photograph the item, pack it for a long journey and send it to Canada with a customs declaration on the real purchase price, so GST/HST and duty are assessed on what you actually paid.

Marktplaats describes its own shipping service for the Netherlands only, and whether a private seller sends to Canada is that seller's decision; most will not. Have the seller deliver to our Dutch address, or let our personal shopper buy the item for you, and we forward it to your Canadian address.
What do I pay in Canadian tax and duty on a Marktplaats item?
For a parcel from the EU the exemption is only CAD 20. Above that you pay GST or HST, depending on your province, and duty at a rate that depends on the product; second-hand goods are not exempt. The carrier collects these on delivery, sometimes with a brokerage fee. We declare the price you really paid.
How do I pay a Marktplaats seller from Canada?
