Dutch summer sales 2026: how to shop Dutch webshops from abroad

by DZH Transport Seasonal

The summer sales in the Netherlands start at the end of June and run well into August. Fashion webshops and department stores clear out the summer collection, and the discounts grow step by step over those weeks. If you live outside the Netherlands, you will often find that a webshop delivers only within the Netherlands, or to the Netherlands and Belgium, or that the international shipping costs are higher than the discount is worth.

With a Dutch delivery address you simply join in: you order from the Dutch webshop, we receive, bundle and forward to your own address. In this article you will read when to expect which discount, how Dutch sizes work, what you need to arrange for a return and why it pays to bundle several orders into one shipment.

When do the discounts start and how do they grow?

Most Dutch webshops start the summer sales in the last week of June, often with a first discount of 20 to 30 percent on part of the collection. July brings the real clearance, with discounts on many items rising to 40 to 50 percent. The final markdowns come at the end of July and in August, sometimes up to 70 percent, but by then the choice of sizes and colours has become small.

That is the trade-off that returns every summer: buying early means a smaller discount but the full size range, buying late means a large discount on whatever is left. If you are after a specific size or a popular model, order in the first wave. If price matters most, wait until August.

Zalando, de Bijenkorf, Wehkamp, G-Star and Scotch & Soda

Zalando.nl has the widest range, with discounts from hundreds of brands side by side in its own sale category where you filter by size and brand. De Bijenkorf is the department store for the more expensive brands and designer labels; there, the summer sales are often the moment when a brand that is rarely marked down elsewhere does drop in price. Wehkamp aims at the broader mid-market and in summer often marks down whole categories at once.

G-Star and Scotch & Soda are Dutch brands with their own webshops. Their own sales usually run in step with those of the department stores, but the stock per size is often more complete in the brand's own shop than at a reseller. With all five, watch the return conditions: the return period and the return costs differ per shop and count from the day the parcel is delivered in the Netherlands, not from the day it reaches you. Check those conditions before you order.

Bundling, returning and what it costs

If you order from three webshops, three parcels arrive at our address. In My DZH you register each parcel with its tracking code; once everything is in, we repack it into one box and send one shipment to your address. That is almost always cheaper than three separate shipments, and within the EU nothing is added on delivery. Outside the EU you pay import VAT and usually import duties on delivery, calculated on the actual purchase value, including discounted clothing. You see the price of our shipment in advance in the calculator, and every shipment is insured up to €99 as standard.

Frequently asked questions

Which size should I choose at a Dutch webshop?

Dutch webshops use European sizes: clothing in the range 34 to 46 for women and 44 to 58 for men, shoes in the range 35 to 47. Every webshop has a size chart in centimetres; measure your chest, waist and hips and compare them with the chart rather than converting your size from another country.

Can I return a sale item from abroad?

The return label of a Dutch webshop only works within the Netherlands. If the parcel is still with us, you request the return in My DZH and we send the item back to the webshop within the Netherlands. If it is already with you, you first send it to your DZH address and it goes back from there. Mind the return period, which counts from delivery in the Netherlands, and check whether the webshop charges return costs or excludes discounted items.

Can I have orders from several webshops sent in one shipment?

Yes. You register each parcel in My DZH and indicate that you want to bundle. We wait until everything has arrived, repack it into one box and send one shipment. Outside the EU, customs then charges VAT and duties once on the whole; we always declare the actual purchase value after discount, with your invoices as proof.
