Forwarding HEMA orders to Canada
Canada's Dutch community keeps HEMA close: children's clothing, school supplies, stationery and kitchen items, and Sinterklaas and Christmas decorations for the kids. HEMA's customer service says that abroad you can only order in Belgium, Germany and France and that delivery to other countries is not possible, so a Canadian address gets no further than checkout. Order to your Dutch address at DZH instead: we receive the parcel, photograph it and collect several orders into one box for Canada. One box matters here, because Canada's exemption for parcels from the EU is only CAD 20 and GST/HST applies above it, so one shipment with clear customs paperwork clears more cheaply than several small ones.

Does HEMA ship to Canada?
No. HEMA's customer service says that abroad you can only order in Belgium, Germany and France, and that delivery to other countries is not possible. Order to your Dutch address at DZH with your customer code instead, and we forward the parcel to any Canadian address with the carrier you choose.
What do I pay at Canadian customs on a HEMA order?
For parcels from the EU the Canadian exemption is only CAD 20. Above that you pay GST or HST on the value, plus duty that depends on the product. The carrier collects these amounts before delivery, sometimes with a handling fee. We declare the real purchase value and list each item clearly on the customs form.
Can I order HEMA food for Canada, and can I return items?
Food is checked more strictly at Canadian customs and some products are not allowed in, so tell us what you plan to order and we check whether the carrier accepts it. Returns to HEMA go through our address with the return label uploaded in My DZH, but shipping from Canada is at your cost and rarely pays off for low-value items.
