IKEA reshipping: ordering from IKEA Netherlands when you live abroad
You live in Belgium, France, Spain or further away, and you want something from IKEA Netherlands: a new cover for your SÖDERHAMN sofa, a wardrobe in flat packs, a lamp that is not in your country's range. But IKEA Netherlands doesn't ship abroad: IKEA.nl only delivers to Dutch addresses.
IKEA reshipping solves that. You order with a Dutch delivery address, we receive the boxes and forward them to your country. That is how an IKEA order goes abroad, even where IKEA itself doesn't deliver. If you live in the United States, also read our article on shipping IKEA to the US.
Why IKEA Netherlands doesn't deliver abroad
IKEA works country by country: each national organisation has its own web shop, its own range and its own prices. According to its own customer service, the Dutch web shop only delivers in the Netherlands. We checked this on 12 September 2026; the source is listed in our overview of web shops that do (not) deliver abroad.
For countries without an IKEA store, IKEA has its own export service, International Sales, for sea and air freight. For a cover, a lamp or a few boxes that is heavy artillery. And if you live in a country that does have IKEA, you are after that one item from the Dutch range. A Dutch address with forwarding is then the practical route.
How it works: from IKEA.nl to your door
Step 1 — in My DZH you request your DZH address: our delivery address in the Netherlands, with your personal customer code in the address line. You receive the full address by e-mail; we never publish it.
Step 2 — you order at IKEA.nl like any Dutch customer, in your own name and with your DZH address as the delivery address. If the web shop refuses your foreign payment card, our personal shopper orders it for you.
Step 3 — we receive the boxes, check them for visible damage and report every parcel in My DZH, with a photo and the weight. If your order arrives in parts, we wait until everything is in.
Step 4 — you approve the shipment and pay the invoice. We ship with track & trace: within the EU without customs, outside it with the customs paperwork included.
Flat packs, covers and lamps
IKEA packs flat, and that helps: flat boxes stack well and hold little air. But a wardrobe door or side panel is long, and carriers don't charge by weight alone. Depending on carrier and destination, the size counts too, or the volumetric weight: length times width times height, divided by a fixed number. A long, light box can therefore cost more than its weight suggests.
Covers are the opposite: light and compressible. A cover for a SÖDERHAMN sofa or a set of cushion covers often fits in a small box and travels easily with other orders. Lighting needs more care: glass shades are fragile, and check in advance whether the plug and voltage suit your country. What is sold in the Netherlands is made for the European grid.
If a box is too long or too heavy for parcel services, it goes as freight and you get a quote instead of a standard price. The calculator gives a from-price straight away for common sizes; on arrival we weigh and measure everything again.
Frequently asked questions
What if IKEA refuses my foreign payment card?
Then our personal shopper orders the item for you, online at IKEA.nl, delivered to your DZH address. You pay in advance. If the order is above the amount we buy without consultation, we contact you first.
Can you also collect an IKEA order from the store?
Yes. If you choose collection at a store or pick-up point in the web shop, forward us the collection confirmation. We collect the order and ship it on: our click & collect service for IKEA.
Do I pay import duties on an IKEA order?
Not within the EU: you already paid the VAT at IKEA. Outside the EU your country charges VAT and often import duties on arrival, which you pay as the receiver. We always declare the true value.
Does this also work for the United States?
Yes, although the US has its own customs rules: since 29 August 2025 any shipment there can be charged import duties, whatever its value. Our article on shipping IKEA to the US explains what that means.
