What does reshipping cost? Shipping, handling and storage explained
The question we get most, in every language: what does it cost in total? The honest answer is that it depends on your parcel and your country. But the structure is always the same, and that is what we explain here.
We deliberately don't mention amounts in this article: rates change, and a number in an article goes out of date. The current prices are on the reshipper page, the country pages and in the calculator.
What the price is made of
One: shipping to your country. It comes from our shipping contracts and depends on the country, the weight, the size and the carrier. In the calculator you often see more than one option side by side, such as the cheapest and the fastest.
Two: handling, a fixed amount per parcel. For that we receive your parcel, check it for visible damage, weigh and measure it and report it in My DZH, with a photo. The from-prices on the country pages include handling and packaging.
Three: extras, only if you choose them, such as repacking or splitting a parcel. Each extra has a fixed price, which you see in My DZH before you request it. What you pay the web shop, for the item and the delivery to our address, is separate.
Weight, size and volumetric weight
Carriers don't charge only by what a box weighs. Depending on carrier and destination, the size counts too, or the volumetric weight: length times width times height, divided by a fixed number. If that is higher than the actual weight, the carrier charges the volumetric weight.
A large, light box with a lampshade or a duvet can therefore cost more than a small box full of books. The calculator shows which weight is used; the final price follows from what we weigh and measure on arrival.
Storage: how many days are included?
Every parcel comes with its first days of storage included. How many depends on your membership in My DZH; without a membership, the period on the reshipper page applies. After that we charge an amount per parcel per day, as stated in our terms.
If you are waiting for more orders to ship everything together, keep an eye on that period. Order only when you plan to have things shipped fairly soon.
Excluding or including VAT?
On the site you see amounts excluding and including VAT; which applies to you depends on where you live. If you live in the EU and order as a private customer, our price includes Dutch VAT. A business with a valid VAT number gets an invoice with the VAT reverse-charged.
Outside the EU, our price contains no Dutch VAT for private customers. There your own country charges VAT and often import duties on arrival, on the value of the contents. You pay those as the receiver, not to us.
Bundling, and what the destination does
If you have several parcels combined into one box, you pay shipping once instead of per parcel, and outside the EU there is one customs clearance. Any cost for combining appears as a separate line on your invoice. One big box sometimes falls into a more expensive size than two small ones: bundling usually pays off, not always.
To France, Germany or Denmark a parcel stays within the EU: no customs and no import duties. To the United States there are: since 29 August 2025 any shipment there can be charged import duties, whatever its value. The price per country is on the country pages.
Frequently asked questions
When do I know what I pay in total?
Beforehand, the calculator gives an indicative price. The exact amount follows once we have weighed and measured your parcels: you get an invoice with every line, and we only ship after your approval and payment.
How long can my parcel stay without storage costs?
A number of days, depending on your membership in My DZH. Without a membership, the period on the reshipper page applies; after that you pay per parcel per day.
How do I keep the costs down?
Bundle orders that arrive close together, ship within the storage period, and compare the cheapest and fastest options in the calculator. You can have a large, half-empty box repacked if that clearly lowers the volumetric weight.
What does shipping to the United States cost?
The from-price is on the US country page; the calculator works out your weight and size. On top of that, count on US import duties, which you pay as the receiver on arrival; since August 2025 there is no longer a duty-exempt threshold.
