Dutch products in Spain: ordering from bol.com, HEMA and Kruidvat
If you live in Spain, it's often the ordinary things you miss: a box of hagelslag, shampoo from the Dutch drugstore, a book from bol.com, underwear from HEMA. According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), more than 49,000 Dutch nationals were registered with Spain as their country of residence on 1 July 2025, and Belgium's Foreign Affairs ministry counted more than 40,000 Belgians there in June 2025. Both add that the real number may be higher.
Within the EU, forwarding is simple: no customs, no import duties. Below you'll find which Dutch shops deliver to Spain themselves, how to get the rest via a Dutch delivery address and what is better left at home; for Portugal, Italy and the south of France, the differences are noted. Which shops deliver to Spain themselves
In short: of the shops in the table, only Zeeman delivers through its own Spanish web shop, and bol.com with a limited range. Look close to home too: Action and Zeeman have stores in Spain. We checked each shop on its own website, as of September 2026; policies change, so if in doubt, look at the checkout yourself.
Supermarkets are a separate case. Albert Heijn and Jumbo deliver groceries in the Netherlands in a time slot you choose; that isn't made for forwarding, and we don't ship fresh products. Long-life products such as hagelslag, licorice, peanut butter and stroopwafels are better ordered from a web shop that ships parcels; bol.com, for example, has its own food and drink category, Eten & Drinken.

The rest: ordering to a Dutch address
For everything that doesn't come to Spain by itself, you request your DZH address in My DZH: our delivery address in the Netherlands, with your personal customer code. You enter it at bol.com, HEMA or Kruidvat as if you lived in the Netherlands; for Belgians, the shop's Dutch site works the same way. We report each parcel in My DZH and keep it until you want to ship.
One box a month: how to bundle
A parcel to Spain costs more than one within the Netherlands, so bundling pays off. Order what you need for the month within a few days, have the parcels combined and ship one box. You pay for shipping once; the cost of combining appears as a separate line on your invoice.
Keep an eye on the storage period. How many days of storage are included depends on your membership in My DZH; after that you pay per parcel per day. So order close together rather than spread over the month, and check the calculator or our article on costs for what one box to Spain costs.
No customs, but a few exceptions
Spain, Portugal, Italy and France are in the EU, and between EU countries there are no import duties and no customs clearance. The Dutch VAT you pay at the web shop simply stands; nothing is added in Spain. It's different in the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla: they are outside the EU VAT area, and a parcel going there does go through customs.
Excise goods are the second exception. For alcohol and tobacco, excise duty is due in the country where you consume them; the personal-use exemption applies when you carry them yourself while travelling, not to a parcel. On top of that, PostNL won't take tobacco or drinks over 24 percent alcohol in any parcel abroad. So leave alcohol and tobacco out of the box.
Frequently asked questions
Does bol.com deliver to Spain?
Only to a limited extent: items bol sells itself, and even then without electronics, medicines and items needing a delivery appointment. Anything from third-party sellers is excluded; order that to your DZH address and we forward it.
Do I pay customs or VAT in Spain on my parcel?
No: within the EU the Dutch VAT you paid at the web shop stands, and nothing is added. Only in the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla does a parcel go through customs, and excise duty applies to alcohol and tobacco.
Can you forward to the Canary Islands too?
Ask us first. The islands are outside the EU VAT area: a parcel goes through customs there, the Spanish customs declaration requires the recipient's tax number (NIF), and Canary Islands tax may be added.
