Won an auction in the Netherlands? Getting your lot collected and shipped

by DZH Transport

You bid remotely and won: a batch of tools at Troostwijk, a machine at Surplex, a design chair on Catawiki. Then it turns out the lot can only be collected on a fixed day, from a hall in the Netherlands or Belgium. The auction house ships nothing, and you live hundreds of kilometres away.

Below you'll find, per auction house, what it arranges itself and what it leaves to you: collection window, proof of collection, dismantling and loading. Then how we collect the lot with our van and get it to you, as a parcel or delivered by van. DZH Transport is not affiliated with Troostwijk, Surplex or Catawiki.

What the auction house arranges, and what it doesn't

Troostwijk works with fixed collection days at the auction location, usually without an appointment; the day is on your invoice and in Troostwijk's emails. Whoever collects shows the paid invoice with its QR code. Troostwijk transports nothing itself: dismantling, loading and transport are up to the buyer, and there is no packing material on site. It advises against courier services such as DHL, UPS and DPD, because lots can't be packed and labelled there.

BVA Auctions was folded into Troostwijk in 2023; anyone opening bva-auctions.com now lands at Troostwijk. Under Surplex's terms you collect a lot immediately after the purchase, within one week at the latest, unless other collection times have been agreed. After that you pay for storage, and after a further grace period Surplex may keep storing the lot, sell it off or have it scrapped, at your expense. Check the lot description to see whether there is help with loading on site.

How we collect your lot

You send us the invoice or the collection note; we plan the trip within the collection window and confirm it in advance. The paid invoice with QR code or lot number is almost always enough authorisation. We drive to auction locations in the Netherlands and Belgium, and combine lots from several auctions in one trip.

Our driver arrives with your invoice, checks the lot, records its condition and loads it himself, lifting included. If something needs dismantling, tell us beforehand: we can include straightforward dismantling as an option. Disconnecting gas, water or electricity is a job for a certified installer.

Invoice The auction house's paid invoice; if it doesn't show the payment yet, add the proof of payment.
Proof of collection The QR code or collection note that releases the lot; at Troostwijk the QR code is on the invoice.
Collection day and location The collection window and the address, as on the invoice or in the auction terms.
Dimensions and weight Per lot, as precisely as you can; if in doubt, the lot photos from the auction.

From our van to your door: trip, parcel or quote

After collection there are two routes. Within Europe we can deliver the lot to you with our van, by appointment. Or we take it to our warehouse, pack it there for transport and ship it as a parcel, with tracking and customs paperwork. Enter the collection location, the destination and the dimensions in the calculator and you'll see an indicative price.

If the lot fits in a box, shipping it abroad as a parcel is often cheaper than a trip. That's why we collect first and pack in our warehouse: on collection day there is nothing to pack with on site. Whatever doesn't fit in a parcel, such as a machine, a pallet or a set of furniture, goes by van within Europe and on a tailored quote beyond.

Customs, VAT and what we don't take over

Within the EU there are no customs: a lot sent to Germany, Belgium or France arrives without import duties. Outside the EU, for example in the United Kingdom or Switzerland, your country charges import duties and VAT, which you pay as the recipient. We handle the customs paperwork and always declare the real value.

Frequently asked questions

I missed the collection day. What now?

Contact the auction house straight away. Troostwijk can then cancel the purchase and charge you 25 percent of the purchase price on top of the buyer's premium, but sometimes emails an extra collection moment; Surplex charges storage and first grants a grace period. If you get a new date, forward it to us and we'll see whether we can make it.

Can you also take large machines or pallets?

That depends on size and weight. Tell us both in advance, and whether there's a forklift on site; we then choose the vehicle and make a tailored quote. Whatever doesn't fit in a parcel goes by van within Europe.

My Catawiki seller doesn't ship to my country. Can you help?

Ask the seller via Catawiki's messages whether they will ship to your DZH address in the Netherlands; we then forward the object. Catawiki wants to hear about damage within three days of receipt, so have us check the box when it arrives. If the object has to be collected from a seller in the Netherlands or Belgium, our collection service can do that.
